Interactive Planning Search Website (the Website) - Terms of Use


The Development Control Teams of Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council (the Councils) manage planning applications related to 'County Matter' minerals, waste developments and other developments (with the latter sometimes including developments at schools, fire stations and other ex-Cumbria County Council assets).

This Website only contains planning records for Minerals, Waste and some ex-Cumbria County Council asset related developments which are held electronically by the Councils. It is not a complete database of all information held. Do not rely on information from this site as an alternative to traditional land searches such as Land Registry or Local Land Charge Searches or any other land search.

While the Councils take care to ensure that the information provided on this Website is accurate, the Councils shall not be held responsible for the content or absence of any information on the website or any inability, for whatever reason, to view information on the Website. No representation, warranty, assurance or undertaking(express or implied) is made, and no responsibility or liability is or will be accepted by the Council in relation to the adequacy, accuracy, completeness of the information on this web site. Except for exclusions prohibited by English law, the Councils shall not be liable for any direct or indirect loss, damage or inconvenience caused as a result of use of any information on the Website or inability for whatever reason to view information on the Website.

Please Note: Any views expressed in any of the documents are not necessarily the views of the Councils unless stated and the Councils takes no responsibility for the accuracy of information supplied by applicants or views expressed by third party consultees. The Council also reserves the right not to publish all or parts of documents submitted in connection with a planning application.

Historic Records

Not all documents relating to planning permissions granted before 2006 have been digitised. They may be held within the County Council archives. Please contact us via email to developmentcontrol@cumbria.gov.uk quoting the planning application reference number and setting out the information you wish to view and the Development Control Team will advise you of its availability.

If you have any reason to suspect that any information is incorrect, please contact us by emailing developmentcontrol@cumbria.gov.uk providing as much information as possible.

Copyright Notice

It is your responsibility to comply with Copyright law and you are personally liable for any breach of Copyright law you commit. Plans, drawings and materials submitted to the Councils are protected by Section 47 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (as amended). You may only download or print material for consultation purposes, to compare current applications with previous schemes and to check whether developments have been completed in accordance with approved plans. Copies must not be made or used for any other purpose without the prior permission of the copyright owner.

Documents containing or based on Ordnance Survey mapping are subject to Crown Copyright. Such mapping must not be sub-licensed, sold, demonstrated, lent or otherwise transferred or exploited without permission from the copyright owner. If you are unsure whether you can lawfully use the material, contact the Ordnance Survey directly for prior written permission.

Personal Data

In accordance with national legislation and guidance, the names and addresses of applicants and agents and those making comments and representations on planning applications will appear on our website.

We cannot accept anonymous or private / confidential comments on live planning applications. If you do not provide your name AND address or do not wish your name or address to appear within the case file then your comments will be treated as anonymous and your views will not be taken into account in consideration of the planning application.
